Asterobot doesn't update itself: when a new version is out, you replace the program by hand. It takes a few minutes, and your bots, accounts, packages, game versions and settings are all kept. Asteroboard, on the other hand, updates on its own.
Know when a new version is out
Each time Asterobot starts, it checks asterobot.net. When a newer version is published, the terminal prints An Asterobot update is available with the version and the link, and Asteroboard shows Asterobot update available with a View on asterobot.net button. You can also compare yourself: your version is on Server > Status, and the latest one on the Asterobot file at https://asterobot.net/files/category/3-asterobot/.
What an update keeps
The program is a single file, and Asterobot stores nothing next to it. Everything else lives in the folders of your user profile (Files and folders), which the new version uses as they are:
- your bots, Ankama accounts and packages;
- your game versions and their extracted game data;
- the settings you changed, and the asterobot.net sign-in.
A setting you never changed takes the new version's default, if that default changed. A setting you changed keeps your value (The Config page).
Nothing needs to be exported first. If you want a safety copy anyway, follow Back up your Asterobot.
Update Asterobot
Download the new archive for your system and processor, the same kind as the one you use now, and check it with
checksums.txt. Download Asterobot shows both.Stop Asterobot, with Ctrl+C in its terminal or Shutdown server on Server > Status, and wait until it has exited. Stopping it normally lets it disconnect your bots and put back the line it may have changed in your Dofus folder for MITM mode.
Unpack the archive and replace the old program with the new one:
asterobot.exeon Windows,asteroboton macOS and Linux. You can also put it in another folder and delete the old one.On macOS and Linux, make the new file executable again, from its folder:
chmod +x asterobotStart Asterobot as usual (First launch).
The first line in the terminal now shows the new version, and so does Version on Server > Status. The update notification doesn't show any more.
After the update
- Bring your bots back online. As after any restart, they come back disconnected and nothing plays by itself: click Connect or Start waiting, then Play (Disconnect, delete and restart).
- Look at the Compatibility column of Game Manager. Each release of Asterobot is tested with one Dofus version, which can change from one release to the next. A game version that matches shows Compatible (Why Asterobot downloads Dofus).
- Look at your packages. A package that states which versions of Asterobot it works with can switch between Compatible and Incompatible after an update (What is a package).
Asteroboard updates on its own
There's nothing to download for Asteroboard. While it's open, it checks for a new version every 30 minutes, and shows Update available when one is ready. Click Refresh now, or reload the page when it suits you, to switch to it. Messages and updates has the details, and what to do when it doesn't switch.
Asterobot and Asteroboard have separate versions and update separately.
